CURRENT CONSTRUCTION UPDATES:

9/23/26: Phase I is complete and Phase II is on schedule to be completed in February 2027!

We are also excited to announce that we purchased a digital x-ray machine through the generosity of an Impact100 Martin grant. Having this equipment on site will significantly expedite our care of animals in need of critical medical attention. 

Phase I renovated the back of our shelter ultimately providing a private entrance for public spay/neuter, foster, owner surrender, and euthanasia services. It also eased access to clinical areas for faster animal evaluations. 

Phase II is updating our adoption area, kennels, and meet and greet rooms, creating a more comfortable space for both our animals and customers.

With construction still underway, our staff is sharing space, and we appreciate the public's flexibility during the transition.

• Spay/neuter drop-offs and pick-ups continue to be in our Jane & Shirley Wurz Training Center.

4/27/26: Phase II has begun! Please note we will have some temporary modifications beginning the first week of May, and we appreciate your understanding and flexibility during this exciting time of change.

11/9/2025: We’re excited to share that Phase I of our renovation project is nearly complete and is expected to wrap up by the end of the year! Phase II will begin in mid-February, bringing even more improvements to our shelter. We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding, and support as we continue making our campus a better place for the animals in our care.

As part of these Phase II changes, and to help our dogs feel safer, calmer and more comfortable, the dog adoption floor will be viewable through a picture-perfect window, allowing our amazing team of staff and trained volunteers to work uninterrupted in the kennels.

To help everyone adjust smoothly, we’ll begin this new process gradually:

• Starting Sunday, November 16, 2025: Visitors will check in at the front desk and complete their visitor/adopter profile paperwork until an experienced escort is available.
• Families interested in adopting will be shown up to three dogs at a time, guided by a team member throughout the visit.
• Potential adopters are encouraged to view adoptable dogs on our website beforehand and/or call (772) 223-8822 to inquire about specific dogs.

The cat and critter adoption areas will remain open to visitors throughout the day without an escort.

We know this is a change from how things have been, and we’re grateful for your cooperation and kindness during this transition. These updates will create a more humane environment for our dogs, allow for better interactions with potential adopters, and enhance the adoption experience for everyone.
