This program is suitable for grades K-12, and consists of multiple, separate programs – or lessons – relating to pets and pet care. All of our Lessons in Kindness are accompanied by certified pet therapy dogs. We welcome your group to receive your lesson at the Humane Society, or we can come you! These lessons are taught FREE of charge, but donations are greatly appreciated. Lessons in Kindness can be presented to classrooms, scout troops, after-school programs, and more! Please direct all inquiries to Jessie Clifford at jclifford@hstc1.org. Please note that this program must be scheduled at least 60 days in advance.
This lesson teaches both compassion and safety. Surprising to many, animals share many of the same emotions that people do! Through a storybook, kids will learn about how animals may present certain behaviors based on their emotions and how we can ready an animal’s body language to stay safe.
This hands-on lesson teaches children about responsibility and what it means to be a caregiver for a dog or cat.
This interactive activity teaches students about the tragedy of pet overpopulation and what that means for the quality of life of these animals. Students will learn about the importance of spaying and neutering, adopting from a shelter, and making a life-long commitment to their pet at home.
Did you know that children are the number one victim of dog bites?! This lesson teaches children how to safely greet an animal, how to know when to leave an animal alone, and what to do if a stray or unknown animal approaches them.
Have you ever wondered where pet stores get their puppies from? This eye-opening lesson brings awareness of the heartbreaking history of Puppy Mills.
We're partnering with Little Medical School of the Treasure Coast to offer four exciting mini-day camp options at our location for future healthcare heroes! The Little Doctor School and Little Veterinarian School (Dog) mini-day camps will be available for both Pre-K and ages 5-11. These camps will begin with a white coat ceremony and end with an informal graduation ceremony. Campers will learn about anatomy, surgery, and more while using real medical tools, and building models, and will take home worksheets. Part of the proceeds will go directly toward supporting our shelter.
