Each month, the Dolly’s Dream Project sponsors two dogs available for adoption at Humane Society of the Treasure Coast. When you choose to adopt one of these dogs, you and your new furry friend will receive:

2-year-old Jamal had a hard time adjusting to the kennel life after he was surrendered to our shelter back in February. Jamal had many fears and had a hard time trusting new humans. After months of TLC and training, we are happy to announce that Jamal is finally learning to trust again! This brave boy loves toys, dog pools, and playing fetch. He is looking for a quiet home with an owner that can give him the time and patience that he needs to adjust.
Nessa is an active, 4-year-old female who loves human attention. She’s still learning her leash manners but is very treat motivated and focused. She loves to roll around in the grass and play with rope toys. Her ideal home would have a fenced yard where she can get a lot of daily exercise.
Walk through the kennels of Humane Society of the Treasure Coast and many other larger animal shelters in Florida and around the nation and you’ll discover quite a few dogs we lovingly call “Square Heads.” Big, tall, short, small they have one thing in common – a head that looks a bit “square.” At first glance, some would call a dog like this a “Pit Bull” or a “bully breed”. But truthfully, these are simply the mixed breed dogs that are now one of the most popular and most beloved dogs in America!
Dolly’s Dream is a project to encourage the adoption of our “Square Heads” and to help counter the unfortunate stereotypes and myths that some people still believe about these dogs. Humane Society of the Treasure Coast finds homes and new families for hundreds of these dogs each year. They are adopted by a wide variety of people – single people, couples, grandparents and families with children of all ages.
"Dolly” (pictured here) was a Square Head who opened the
heart of the man who adopted her and taught him how loving, sweet and gentle these dogs can be. No different than any other type of dog.
Today, in her honor, Dolly’s Dream is to give dogs like her a second chance at life and the type of home every dog deserves.
