Each month, the Dolly’s Dream Project sponsors two dogs available for adoption at Humane Society of the Treasure Coast. When you choose to adopt one of these dogs, you and your new furry friend will receive:
Due to HSTC’s COVID-19 response, all adoptions are by appointment only. Please call (772) 223-8822 to schedule you appointment today! Danny, Max, and the rest of their adoptable friends can be found on our website here.
Ooboo is a 5 year old Male American Pit Bull Terrier Mix. He has only been in our care since early January, and has quickly become a staff and volunteer favorite. He is the dog of choice for the best selfies, and we think he is an Instagram star in the making! Ooboo is a 75 pound lap dog who enjoys cuddles and snuggles. He is still working on his leash manners, but makes up for the lack of manners in pure affection. He would prefer to be the only four-legged family member in his new home; he wants all the love for himself.
Are you looking for a rough-and-tumble, active, playful pup to call your very own? Then look no further! Luna is a large bundle of wiggly playfulness. Some dogs are motivated by treats or praise - she is motivated by TOYS! She loves toys. She definitely enjoy treats too and is always happy with a good snuggle. Luna knows several basic commands like "sit"; she's a smart gal and would it if her new home would teach her even more commands.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we are open by appointment only. Please view our adoptable pets online at www.hstc1.org/pet-search and then call our shelter at 772-223-8822 to schedule your appointment to visit, meet any pets, and complete your adoption.
Walk through the kennels of Humane Society of the Treasure Coast and many other larger animal shelters in Florida and around the nation and you’ll discover quite a few dogs we lovingly call “Square Heads.” Big, tall, short, small they have one thing in common – a head that looks a bit “square.” At first glance, some would call a dog like this a “Pit Bull” or a “bully breed”. But truthfully, these are simply the mixed breed dogs that are now one of the most popular and most beloved dogs in America!
Dolly’s Dream is a project to encourage the adoption of our “Square Heads” and to help counter the unfortunate stereotypes and myths that some people still believe about these dogs. Humane Society of the Treasure Coast finds homes and new families for hundreds of these dogs each year. They are adopted by a wide variety of people – single people, couples, grandparents and families with children of all ages.
"Dolly” (pictured here) was a Square Head who opened the heart of the man who adopted her and taught him how loving, sweet and gentle these dogs can be. No different than any other type of dog.
Today, in her honor, Dolly’s Dream is to give dogs like her a second chance at life and the type of home every dog deserves.
