Each month, the Dolly’s Dream Project sponsors two dogs available for adoption at Humane Society of the Treasure Coast. When you choose to adopt one of these dogs, you and your new furry friend will receive:

Nero is a 1 year old American Pit Bull Terrier mix. This handsome pup has a lot of energy and loves to run and play. He is a strong, fun-long guy who would do best in an active home. Nero wants your attention all to himself and would prefer a home with no other pets. Nero is currently accepting visitors at the HSTC main shelter.
Loky is a 6 year old American Pit Bull mix. He is super energetic and loves to play! Loky is very strong and would be best in a home with no small children. In the past, Loky was kept outside so he is looking for a family with patience who can show him what being an inside dog is all about! Loky is currently accepting visitors at the HSTC main shelter.
Max is 3 years old and weighs in just over 70 pounds. He is a bit chunky because he is so very food motivated and loves treats! Max knows several basic commands and keeps a tidy kennel (he may already be house trained!). He enjoys playtime outside with toys and can sometimes be a bit of a rough-and-tumble player. Max is a ladies man and would love a home where he is the only man around.
Walk through the kennels of Humane Society of the Treasure Coast and many other larger animal shelters in Florida and around the nation and you’ll discover quite a few dogs we lovingly call “Square Heads.” Big, tall, short, small they have one thing in common – a head that looks a bit “square.” At first glance, some would call a dog like this a “Pit Bull” or a “bully breed”. But truthfully, these are simply the mixed breed dogs that are now one of the most popular and most beloved dogs in America!
Dolly’s Dream is a project to encourage the adoption of our “Square Heads” and to help counter the unfortunate stereotypes and myths that some people still believe about these dogs. Humane Society of the Treasure Coast finds homes and new families for hundreds of these dogs each year. They are adopted by a wide variety of people – single people, couples, grandparents and families with children of all ages.
"Dolly” (pictured here) was a Square Head who opened the
heart of the man who adopted her and taught him how loving, sweet and gentle these dogs can be. No different than any other type of dog.
Today, in her honor, Dolly’s Dream is to give dogs like her a second chance at life and the type of home every dog deserves.
