Pet Adoptions

Whether at our main shelter in Palm City, or any of our off-site adoption locations, we offer same day adoptions!

We encourage you to view adoptable dogs on our website, email us at DogAdoption@hstc1.org, or call ahead at 772-223-8822 if you’re interested in a specific dog.

To visit our shelter's dog adoption area, check in at the front desk and complete visitor or adopter paperwork while waiting for an experienced team member. Potential dog adopters are given priority for guided walk-throughs, while browsing visitors are assisted as time allows and viewing dogs cannot be guaranteed. Families interested in adopting will be guided by a team member and introduced to up to three dogs at a time to help create thoughtful matches. Our cat and critter adoption areas remain open throughout the day for self-guided visits.

If the animal is in foster or if you are planning to bring your own dog for a meet and greet, please call our shelter to make an appointment first at 772-223-8822. 

We also offer Adoption Trials for Martin County residents only. This program allows potential adopters to bring a pet home for 10 days before making a final adoption decision. Please note that Adoption Trials are only available for animals over 1 year old at our main Palm City shelter.

Home To Home is a peer-to-peer platform that connects families who need to rehome their pet and/or those who are seeking temporary foster placement with other families who may be able to help. The pets featured are NOT physically at the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast (HSTC) nor does the HSTC take responsibility for the rehoming or the fostering process through the Home To Home platform. • You must be at least 18 years old to adopt a pet from our humane society.
• Adoption applications are “first come, first served”. We ask that you are prepared to take your pet home the same day as the adoption
• Please keep in mind, children and four-legged friends should be included in the final decision to adopt. We do allow meet and greets for family pet dogs. We do not offer meet and greets for cats or critters.
• Be aware: there is no guarantee that you will be approved for the particular pet for which you have applied. We are looking for the best fit for the pet and potential adopter. You may be encouraged to meet a different pet that may be a better fit.
• Adoption fees are non-refundable. Our counselors and expert staff spend a lot of time helping you make a good decision about bringing home a new family member. We encourage you to be certain about your decision before finalizing your adoption.
• HSTC reserves the right to deny any adoption application, for any reason.
